Live Cricket Betting Guide: In-Play on Tigerexch

Most of the activity on Tigerexch happens after the first ball is bowled. Live, or in-play, betting lets you react to what is actually happening — a collapse, a big partnership, a change in the weather — but it also adds things that pre-match betting does not have: a bet delay, markets that suspend without warning, prices that move before your click lands, and a TV picture that may be several seconds behind reality. This guide explains each of those mechanics, shows the maths of trading during a match, and covers the practical side: devices, connection and keeping your head when the game gets tense.

18+ only. Live betting moves fast — set your limit before the match starts.

What In-Play Betting Means on an Exchange

Pre-match betting closes when the match starts on a traditional bookmaker. On an exchange the market stays open: players keep backing and laying throughout the game, and the price you see at any moment is simply the best offer from other players at that instant. That is why in-play prices are often sharper than pre-match prices — thousands of people are watching the same game and updating their view every ball.

Everything you know about back and lay still applies. A back bet still risks the stake, a lay still carries a liability of stake × (odds − 1), and commission is still charged on net market winnings. If those terms are new, start with back and lay betting explained before betting live. What changes in-play is speed and the extra rules that protect the market from people with faster information.

Why Cricket Odds Move Ball by Ball

Every delivery changes the probability of each result, so every delivery can change the price. Some movements are small: a dot ball in a chase nudges the required rate up and the chasing side's price drifts slightly. Others are large: a wicket, a dropped catch, a review overturned, or a six off the last ball of an over.

  • Wickets cause the biggest moves, especially a set batter or the last recognised batter.
  • Boundaries and big overs shorten the batting side's price, most sharply at the death of a chase.
  • Required rate drift during quiet overs moves the price gradually rather than in jumps.
  • Weather — rain clouds or an interruption — can move prices before a ball is bowled, as revised targets become likely.
  • Team news inside the match, such as an injury to a key bowler, also shifts the market.

Understanding which events cause which kind of movement helps you avoid two classic errors: panicking at a small swing that is perfectly normal, and ignoring a gradual drift that is telling you the match is turning.

Bet Delay: Why Your Live Bet Isn't Instant

When you place an in-play bet, it does not go into the market immediately. The exchange holds it for a short delay — usually a few seconds, shown in the market rules — before trying to match it. The purpose is fairness: without a delay, someone at the ground or with a faster feed could bet on a ball that has already been bowled before the rest of the market can react.

What happens during the delayResult for your bet
Nothing significant; price unchangedBet is matched at your price after the delay
Price moves in your favourBet is matched at your requested price or better, depending on market rules
Price moves against youBet stays unmatched at your price, waiting in the queue
Market suspends (wicket, boundary review etc.)Bet is typically not accepted and you need to place it again

The practical lesson: in-play, the price you click is a request, not a guarantee. Look at the matched / unmatched section after every live bet to see what actually happened.

Suspended Markets and What Happens to Your Bet

A market suspends when something important may have happened and the price needs to reset — a wicket appeal, a review, a possible boundary, a rain break or a drinks interval where conditions change. While suspended, nobody can place or match bets, and the prices on screen are greyed out.

When the market reopens, prices may be very different. Unmatched bets you left in the queue can be cancelled automatically on certain events depending on market rules, so check after every suspension rather than assuming your order is still there. Matched bets are never affected by a suspension: they stand at the price they were matched at.

Fancy and session markets suspend more often than match odds, sometimes on every ball near the line. If a session is suspended when you want to bet, wait; trying to "beat" the reopening is how mistakes happen.

Unmatched Bets in a Moving Market

If you request a price that is not currently available — for example you want to back at 2.10 but the best offer is 2.00 — your bet waits unmatched until another player offers 2.10. In a fast in-play market this can be useful, because prices swing and your order may be filled. It can also be dangerous: an unmatched back at 2.10 might be matched minutes later after a wicket has made 2.10 a bad price.

Good habits: keep unmatched orders only where you would genuinely be happy to be matched whatever happens next; cancel them at the end of each over if you are not watching closely; and never leave unmatched lays with large liabilities sitting in the queue while you step away from the screen.

Ball-by-Ball Information: TV Lag and Scorecard Lag

The picture on your TV or streaming app is almost always behind the real match. Satellite broadcasts typically lag a few seconds; online streams can lag much more. Free live-score apps may update slower still. Meanwhile, the exchange price is being moved by players with faster feeds.

This creates a trap. You see a batter play a big shot on your screen, click to back the batting side — and the price you see has already moved because the ball happened several seconds ago. Worse, a wicket may already have fallen that you have not yet seen. The bet delay protects the market from some of this, but it cannot protect you from betting on old information.

  • Do not try to bet on the ball that is "just happening" on your screen.
  • Use the score shown inside the panel as your reference, not a separate app.
  • Make decisions between overs, when nothing is happening on the field.

Trading In-Play: A Worked Example

Suppose at the innings break you think the chasing side is underpriced and back them ₹1,000 at 2.40. They have a strong powerplay and their price shortens to 1.80. You can lock in a profit by laying them now.

Equal-profit lay stake = back stake × back odds ÷ lay odds = ₹1,000 × 2.40 ÷ 1.80 ≈ ₹1,333.

  • If they win: back profit ₹1,400 − lay liability (₹1,333 × 0.80 ≈ ₹1,067) ≈ +₹333.
  • If they lose: back stake −₹1,000 + lay stake ₹1,333 ≈ +₹333.

Commission then applies to the net ₹333. If instead they lose two quick wickets and drift to 3.20, closing would lock in a loss: lay ₹1,000 × 2.40 ÷ 3.20 = ₹750, giving −₹250 on either result. Whether to close or hold is a judgement, but knowing the numbers in advance stops you deciding in a panic. The cash-out button on the panel performs these calculations automatically; our cash out and hedging guide explains its quirks.

How to Place a Live Bet Safely

  1. Set the match budget before the first ball

Decide the maximum you will stake or risk in liability across the whole match.

  2. Open the market from the in-play list

Check it is the correct match, innings and market. Session lines for the first and second innings look very similar.

  3. Wait for a calm moment

Between overs or after a suspension has fully cleared, not while a ball is in the air.

  4. Click the price and read the slip

Confirm back or lay, stake, price and liability. On mobile, check you did not tap the neighbouring box.

  5. Confirm and check matched / unmatched

After the delay, see whether the bet was matched. If not, decide whether to leave, edit or cancel it.

  6. Note your exit prices

Write down the price for taking a profit and the price for cutting a loss, then follow them.

Connection and Device Tips for Live Betting

  • Use a stable connection. Wi-Fi with good signal is usually steadier than mobile data in a crowded stadium or on a train.
  • Keep one device for betting. Logging in on several devices at once can trigger security checks and session logouts.
  • Use the app or a saved working link. The Tigerexch app or the link from support loads faster than searching each time — and avoids clone sites.
  • Close heavy apps. Streaming video and the betting panel on the same weak phone can slow both.
  • Refresh if prices freeze. If odds stop updating while the match continues, refresh before placing anything.
  • Know what to do if you lose access. Matched bets stand even if you disconnect. If you cannot log back in, message support from your registered number.

Discipline During Live Play

The hardest part of in-play betting is not the maths; it is emotion. A tense finish makes every price look like an opportunity, and a losing bet makes the next one feel urgent. Players who last treat live betting as a few planned decisions per match, not a continuous stream of clicks.

  • Limit yourself to a fixed number of live bets per match.
  • Never increase stakes to recover a loss from earlier in the same match.
  • Stop if you notice you are betting on every over or every ball.
  • Take a break between innings and review what you have done before betting again.

Betting is a risk activity for adults only. Online betting law in India varies by state and the exchange runs on an offshore model, so you are responsible for checking local rules. If live betting stops being fun, use the limits and breaks described on our responsible gambling page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is live cricket betting?

Live or in-play betting means placing bets after the match has started. On an exchange the market stays open, and prices update every ball as players back and lay based on what is happening.

Why is there a delay when I place a live bet?

The exchange holds in-play bets for a few seconds before matching them, so nobody with a faster feed can bet on a ball that has already been bowled. The delay length is shown in the market rules.

What happens to my bet when a market is suspended?

Matched bets stand at their original price. New bets cannot be placed while suspended, and unmatched bets may be cancelled on certain events depending on market rules, so check after the market reopens.

Why did my live bet stay unmatched?

Usually because the price moved during the bet delay. Your bet waits at the price you asked for until another player offers it. You can edit or cancel it from the unmatched section.

Is the TV broadcast in sync with the odds?

No. TV and especially online streams lag behind the real match, often by several seconds. The exchange price moves on faster information, so avoid betting on the ball you are watching.

Can I cash out a live cricket bet?

Yes. You can lay a selection you backed or back one you laid at the current price, or use the cash-out button, to lock in a profit or limit a loss before the match ends.

What happens if my internet disconnects during a live bet?

Matched bets stand and settle normally. An unmatched bet stays in the queue until matched or cancelled, so log back in and check its status as soon as you can.

Are session markets available in-play?

Yes. Session and fancy Yes/No lines are among the most popular live markets. They update ball by ball and suspend frequently near key moments.
